Dear members!

COIN COMMUNITY GALLERY [ http://essais.ru/gallery/ ] is an open resource available for everyone. Undoubtedly, it can be useful for both professional numismatists and collectors interested in pattern coins, bi-metal coins, animal coins etc. But we can only make it such when we work together. Processing incorrectly prepared images takes a lot of our time. It becomes significantly harder to maintain acceptable quality of the images and descriptions of the coins. It’s time to publish the guidelines for preparing the images for uploading. We hope it helps us all.

HOW TO PREPARE THE IMAGE OF A COIN

1. The coin must be taken out of the plastic holder.

2. Both sides of the coin (obverse + reverse) are to be scanned or photographed.
Use only white background (obligatory!).
Currently the database supports JPG, JPEG, PNG, GIF and SVG file formats.
Desired resolution is 600 dpi (for smaller coins 1200 dpi would be better). Desired compression quality for JPG images – no less than 90%.

3. We recommend to use, as much as it possible, the following standard 'formula' for the file name:

[Country], [Year], [Denomination], [Metal]

For example:
Austria_2005_25 Euro_[Bi-metal (Ag + Nb)].jpg

Don’t use national characters (Chinese, Japanese etc.) in the file names – only Latin alphabet letters, digits and signs.

4. Below are examples of images that speak for themselves.
Images marked with red text are wrong and unacceptable.

- Correct image (obverse + reverse):

- Too large empty space around the coin. Bad background:
